You really, genuinely want this person to succeed in whatever it is they're doing, whether deathly serious and fate-of-the-earth deciding or painfully mundane. So why wouldn't you try every old superstition to help them out, like, say...a good luck kiss? Hey, if it doesn't work, it's not like you put too much into it, no skin off your nose.

- they just don't need to read too much into it, of course! You're only wishing them luck, not showing any other feelings or, God forbid, hints at romance.
